AC Idle Solenoids
by George Nenadovich
Here is a 72-up AC idle solenoid. This item raises the idle
rpm when the ac compressor is on. Due to the additional load place on the
engine, the idle needs to be increased to maintain non-AC idle speeds. The
idle rpm/speed with the compressor on is set with the plunger, use a 3/8"
wrench to unscrew the plunger to increase the idle speed.
This is the late 71 AC idle solenoid. Notice the different
bracket configuration. It has one screw that hold it to the intake manifold
while the 72-up versions use 2 screws.
Here is a side-by-side comparison of the two solenoids.
Another pic showing the differences of the mounting brackets.
